THE ASS AND THE LOAD OF SALT :
A merchant had an ass to carry his goods. One day he loaded him with a sack of salt and set off for the village market. On the way they came to a narrow bridge over a pool. The ass fell, by accident, into the pool. A large amount of salt dissolved in the water of the pool. The ass felt comfortable to carry a lighter load.
The next day the ass purposefully fell into the pool. Again much of the salt melted in the water. He became happy, but his master suffered a great loss. The merchant could see through the intention of the wicked ass. He said to himself,
"This silly ass must be made to fall into a trap. He won't dare to play foul again." On the third day, the merchant gave the ass a load of cotton. The ass, as usual, tried the same trick. The cotton absorbed water. It gained much in weight. The ass found to his dismay the load too heavy to carry. He learned a lesson and mended himself.
